When Britney Spears filmed the video for Toxic, in 2003, she had begun to play with his image, and turned into a goddess of pop music. When the second single from the album In The Zone was released, fans saw Spears as a spy seeking revenge for her lover.
"It's basically about a girl addicted to a guy. I really like Toxic. It is an optimistic song. It's really different, that's why I like both. This villain will do anything to get what she wants, and therefore, face many obstacles", Spears told MTV in 2003.
For the video, Britney appears to be a stewardess, but is actually a secret agent in disguise. "The plot is very meaningless. It's fun. It looks like the movements of James Bond, with a bit of sensuality", said Joseph Kahn, director of the video.
This combination gets even better when Britney appears covered with diamonds. "She said she wanted to shoot a scene using diamonds and nothing else, and I thought 'How do I do that?'. She also said she wanted to dance. And I did not like the bikini she wore", said Kahn.
Nevertheless, the duo opted to leave the imagination of those watching flow. "Joseph is very ambitious. He is professional. I came with this concept and threw everything in his hands ... There are gems all over my body. There's really nothing underneath", concludes Britney.
