After months of speculation, Britney Spears decided to formalize the end of her relationship with Jason Trawick.
"Britney and Jason have agreed to end their engagement a year", the singer's rep, Jeff Raymond, to PEOPLE magazine. "As two mature adults, they reached the difficult decision to follow different paths, continuing only as friends."
Spears and Trawick confirmed the end of the relationship in a statement issued by his representative. "Jason and I decided to cancel our engagement", Spears said in a statement. "I'll always love him and will continue to be great friends."
Jason added: "As this chapter ends for us, a new one begins. I love and take care of her and her boys, and we'll be around forever."
Their relationship began between 2008 and 2009, and the couple announced their engagement in December 2011, shortly after the last world tour Spears, Femme Fatale Tour.
According to website TMZ, which was the first to announce their separation on Friday (11), Jason did not want to announce the end of the relationship until his lawyers were able to remove him as co-conservator of Britney in court, so he will be out of their personal issues going forward.
