Simon Cowell is not the only one who can play the "hard to please" on The X Factor.
During the hearings in Kansas City - where Simon was absent due to a crisis of bronchitis - Britney Spears proved that she is taking her new job very seriously.
"She has a very good instinct, and when she loves something, it seems she wants to dance on the table", a program source told People magazine. "When she's not like someone, it is incredibly tough."
Its most acid could be seen this weekend, when she told an aspiring singer, "You have to be great to be in this program, so [my vote is] not."
During another hearing, Spears and the other judges - Demi Lovato, LA Reid and substitute Simon, Louis Walsh - left the set when a competitor refused to face the jury while he sang.
But, according to the source, Spears also has a sweeter side, she showed when she heard a girl with a great voice. A young participant, who sang And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going, from Dreamgirls, told jurors that if she won the show, she would use part of the prize of five million dollars to care for her family, so they never ran out of a house to live.
"Wow, I do not believe you're real", Spears, smiling, told the aspiring singer after his chilling performance. "You are amazing! Caramba! You're a little girl, and that will break quickly."
As for Spears, since she joined the X Factor last month, "his confidence increased significantly", the source told People. "She loves hearing interesting and fun and is prepared to give their opinion and support any participant who she likes, even if the other jurors disagree with his choice."
