Jonas Akerlund has certainly curriculum to create an epic clip for the single Hold It Against Me by Britney Spears. Responsible for videos like Telephone (Gaga), Ray of Light (Madonna) and Sober (P!nk), Akerlund is known for creating pop clips sexy, controversial and insinuating. So, working with Britney Spears was a "natural fit", said choreographer Brian Friedman.
"[When] Jonah and I talked on the phone the first time, I was getting on a plane somewhere, so the conversation was very fast, but I'm a big fan of Jonas Akerlund", Friedman told MTV News. "Whatever he does becomes magic. Your looking at art is insane, and I was eager to work with someone who loves art and not deal with it as just a job, something technical, really is an aesthetic response to what he does."
When Friedman and Akerlund finally met, the conversation was basically about making sure that the video would focus on what Spears does best: sexy dance moves and sharp.
"That said, I had a meeting with him in his house. We talk about the clip from beginning to end, and I gave him all the information about the choreography that I could, because it is a dance video to try to help bring their story to the reality", he said. "And the collaboration has been amazing."
Friedman said Akerlund fully understand his ideas and Spears on the project. He said the results are less than stellar.
"I really think that putting together two artists like that - where the director really loves to dance and understands the art of dance and does not try to smother it - it was the best way", he said. "To me, he was a genius with the dance."
