The streets of the Castro will be interdicted at the end of the month when Britney Spears filming his performance for Good Morning America outside the Castro Theatre, as revealed by a spokesman Scott Wiener.
The blocks 400 and 500 Castro Street, between the local market to 19 street will be closed from midnight until March 26 to March 27 of 16h/17h, Wiener said. The one-hour performance is scheduled to begin at noon. The presentation program will air on GMA on Tuesday next, on March 29.
Wiener said it will set the number of people who will assist in recording free. The producers of ABC are met with local groups to devise plans for recording.
The cost of production is still unknown, said Wiener, but ABC will pay the costs for any additional expense in the city as police strengthened to control the public, rerouting of utilities and costs of organizing and equipping of the stage recording.
The producers of ABC are in the process of submitting applications for permits and details will be finalized in coming weeks. Spears should arrive in San Francisco a few days before his performance on Sunday, as she will probably meet with some organizations for youth and children, as Lavender Youth Recreation and Information Center and Larkin Street Youth Services.
In addition to meeting children and young people, residents of Castro clearly believe that Britney wants to approach the gay community. "It is a measure calculated by Britney to come out here and that means 'claim for their gay'", said Heklina, a popular drag queen in the neighborhood and founded the cabaret Trannyshack.
Still, the drag said that several parties are already being planned for the event and the novelty, at least, is exciting for the neighborhood. Bevan Dufty, former spokesman for Castro, said that Britney's appearance can not be a bad thing. "The Castro district is really rooting for Britney", said Dufty.
