MTV Special - "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" (2001)

Britney Spears was struggling with the fact become an adult when she released her third album, simply titled Britney, in 2001. With songs like Overprotected and Let Me Be, Spears seemed to be dropping all their teenage angst. But with the single I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman, which was included on the soundtrack of the film Crossroads, the singer wanted the world to know that she was prepared to be treated as an adult.

For the video, the director Wayne Isham Britney wanted to have one in a more natural environment - even if the set seemed a little dangerous for the star. "I'm going, 'Let me check this before'", Isham told MTV News on the fact that Britney on the edge of a cliff. "She understood that if I, with my big ass, could stay there, then it could also", he said with a laugh.

The singer might be willing to take that risk, but she still had some fear about being on the edge of a cliff. "He began to blow very strong, and the wind almost knocked me down. And I was like 'OK, we have to go", recalled Spears.

However, Isham loved the look of the video and said it was not used a technique of visual effect, such as chroma-key. "She was there without a safety line, and stood, with those cowboy boots", he said. "She was standing on the edge, using his boots, and looking so sexy. We were on the brink, but she did not have an ounce of fear. "

Spears said in 2001 that the song was planned for the soundtrack of Crossroads, even before we include it in the album. "This song was written for the film, since we had decided to make music a part of the film. It is an inspirational song, and is probably one of my favorite songs I've ever sung", she said."She came in with a very positive energy. And just out brighter still".
